Welcome to the Adventure Holiday Club at The Hideaway in Egerton! This summer, your child is in for a fantastic experience filled with adventure, learning, and nature exploration. Each week, we dive into a different theme, combining educational activities with fun in the great outdoors. Hereโs what your children will be up to:
Weekly Themes and Activities
Week 1: Butterfly Wonders
Dates: WC 22nd July
Theme: Linking to the Big Butterfly Count
Your child will:
- Embark on Butterfly Safaris: Guided walks to spot and identify local butterflies.
- Create Butterfly Life Cycle Crafts: Learn about metamorphosis by making models of each stage.
- Participate in the Big Butterfly Count: Use charts and apps to record butterfly sightings and contribute to this national survey.
- Enjoy Story Time: Read and have the opportunity to explore a range or butterfly inspired books
- Plant a Butterfly Garden: Help create a garden that attracts butterflies, learning about their favourite plants.
Special Event:
- Release Live Butterflies: (dependent on how ready our little caterpillars are)Watch and learn as live butterflies are released, discovering their journey and importance.
Week 2: It’s a Bug’s Life
Dates: WC 29th July
Theme: Linking to Bugs Matter Citizen, with local bee keeper talks, mud kitchen, and bog activities for Bog Day
Your child will:
- Go on an Insect Hunt: Use magnifying glasses and ID charts to discover and identify insects.
- Meet a Bee Keeper: Learn about bees and their role in our ecosystem from a local expert, including a honey extraction.
- Create in the Mud Kitchen: Make mud pies, cakes, and more, using their imagination and natural materials.
- Explore a Bog: Investigate the unique bog ecosystem and its inhabitants.
- Build Bug Hotels: Construct small habitats for beneficial insects to take home.
Special Event:
- Craft Bee Houses and Paint Rocks: Create bee-related crafts, such as bee houses and painted bee rocks.
Week 3: Mindful & Zen Week
Dates: WC 5th August
Theme: Woodland yoga, Nordic walking, and mindful forest and nature activities
Your child will:
- Practice Woodland Yoga: Engage in simple yoga poses in a serene woodland setting.
- Learn Nordic Walking: Enjoy guided sessions using Nordic walking poles for balance and coordination.
- Experience Nature Meditation: Participate in guided meditation focusing on connecting with nature.
- Craft Mandalas: Create mandalas using natural materials and practice mindful coloring.
- Make Story Stones: Paint stones to create storytelling tools for mindful narratives.
Special Event:
- Forest Bathing/Barefoot Walks: Take a calming walk through the forest, immersing in the sights, sounds, and smells of nature.
Week 4: Outdoor Fitness & Fun
Dates: WC 12th August
Theme: Linking to Youth Day with an outdoor fitness group class by Tom from Outdoor Olympia
Your child will:
- Navigate an Obstacle Course: Tackle a nature-inspired course using logs, ropes, and other elements.
- Participate in Team Games: Engage in team-building activities such as relay races and scavenger hunts.
- Explore the Nature Gym: Use the environment for creative exercises like tree-climbing and balancing on logs.
- Play Creative Sports: Enjoy games like โNature Tagโ and โLeaf Relay.โ
- Join a Healthy Eating Workshop: Learn to make nutritious snacks like energy balls.
Special Event:
- Outdoor Fitness Class: Join Tom from Outdoor Olympia for an interactive fitness session in the great outdoors.
Week 5: We’re All a Bit Batty!
Dates: WC 19th August
Theme: Linking to Bat Day with a talk about bats, forest school, and bat-themed nature activities
Your child will:
- Learn About Bats: Listen to a talk on bat habits, habitats, and their ecological importance.
- Use Bat Detectors: Participate in a session of listening to bat calls and observe their flight.
- Craft Bat Masks: Make fun bat masks and bat houses to take home.
- Explore Bat Myths & Facts: Discover interesting facts and debunk common myths about bats.
- Create Your Own Nocturnal Den: Build a cosy den or mini-world during the day where nocturnal animals might live, using natural materials and imagination.
Special Event:
- Learn About Bat Conservation: Discover how we can help protect bats and their habitats, and make bat-friendly crafts to support local bat populations
