Whether you care for a newborn, toddler, or older child, this friendly and accessible workshop builds real-life confidence so you know exactly what to do when it matters most.

What to Expect

1. Introduction 

• Course aims & what to expect

• Understanding the role of a first aider: staying calm, responsibilities, contacting 999/111

• Emergency action plan (DRABC – Danger, Response, Airway, Breathing, Call for help)

2. Infant & Child CPR 

• How to recognize cardiac arrest in babies and children

• Live demonstration plus hands-on practice using baby & child manikins

• Safe recovery position techniques for infants and children

3. Choking 

• How to identify mild vs severe choking

• Step-by-step techniques: back blows, chest thrusts (infant) & abdominal thrusts (child)

• Common household choking hazards

4. Breathing & Medical Emergencies 

• Managing asthma attacks and using inhalers/spacers

• Understanding croup and severe allergic reactions (anaphylaxis, EpiPen use)

• Responding to seizures & febrile convulsions safely

5. Injuries & Accidents at Home 

• Head bumps & recognizing concussion

• Treating bleeding: nosebleeds, cuts, grazes, heavy bleeding & when to call 999

• Burns & scalds from everyday items (hot drinks, kettles, irons, baths)

• Handling breaks, sprains & falls

• Poisoning risks (medicines, cleaning products)

6. Illness Recognition & Temperature 

• Spotting signs of serious illness (meningitis rash, sepsis symptoms)

• Understanding high temperatures in babies & when to worry

• Dehydration signs and safe fluid intake

7. Everyday Scenarios & Q&A 

• Quick-fire “What would you do if…?” scenarios

• Reinforcing calm decision-making and core first aid skills

• Open Q&A for parents & grandparents to discuss real concerns
